Context of the project

Transport hub and surrounding area enhancement

The overall objective of the Al Mahattah terminal urban integration project is to define a multi-modal transport hub able to:

  • Provide clear walkable and easy connections between the Al Mahattah hub and its surroundings;
  • Connect transport modes and services to the BRT terminal: white taxis, inter-urban buses, mini-buses, car parks, drop-off areas, pedestrian access;
  • Provide clear and safe passenger flows through the terminal between the different interfacing transport modes taking into account accessibility needs for all and passenger information;
  • Provide passenger-oriented services linked to transport needs in order to facilitate travel and waiting time, such as waiting hall, ticketing desks and vending machines, etc.;
  • Provide for a simple and pragmatic architectural response, integrating the existing shops and other buildings and facilities (mosque, etc.) within the area.

The UPFI project

Feasibility study for hub integration and urban redevelopment

The specific objectives of this UPFI’s TA are to conduct feasibility study of the Al Mahattah transportation hub project (preliminary design) and to support the preparation of a road map for the redevelopment of the surrounding areas impacted by the Al Mahattah hub.
